McKenzie Hare is a multidisciplinary artist, originating from Los Angeles, currently residing in the
Upstate of South Carolina. Having graduated Magna Cum Laude from Coastal Carolina University in the
fall of 2018, she planned to pursue a full-time Graphic Design position with her BA in Graphic Design.
While finishing her degree, she worked as a gallery assistant at the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery
and as a Senior Graphic Design Intern at the Athenaeum Press in 2018. Following McKenzie’s graduation,
her minor in Studio Arts and 12+ years of oil painting experience took precedence. She continues to take
on portrait commissions in oil paint and freelancing Graphic Design. To share her many years of painting
experience, she offers private oil painting lessons and instructs classes in a variety of mediums at Senior
Action, a non-profit organization providing programs and services for adults over 55 in Greenville
County. Given a spare moment, she creates hand-built ceramic pieces utilizing a pit firing method in her
backyard. These ceramic pieces encase her eco-conscious candles as part of her newest endeavor,
‘HotStuff Candle Co”, an ethical candle brand that donates a portion of proceeds toward Alzheimer’s
research. Her day-to-day life typically involves juggling any combination of 2D, 3D, or digital projects
that are active at the time.
During her college career, she was exclusively given a solo exhibition in the Dean’s office, chosen as the
Featured Student in Greenville Tech’s “Blue Granite Review” visual arts journal for students to exhibit
their best creative work. She juried high school art contests within the Greenville Area, was a gallery
assistant at Coastal Carolina University’s Art Gallery, and was hand-selected to participate in Coastal
Carolina’s “Design Clash” graphic design competition against ECU. Post-graduation, McKenzie has
worked as the leading instructor at Wine & Design for 1.5 years and participated in a mural painting
group for non-profits in Conway, SC. To date, she teaches various classes at Senior Action Non-profit
Organization, offers Arts and Crafts classes at a local Assisted Living Community, and gives private oil
painting lessons in addition to producing artwork in her home studio.
Throughout her art career, her work has been shown in Riverworks Gallery in Greenville, SC,
Spartanburg Library in Spartanburg, SC, a solo exhibition in the Dean’s Office of Greenville Technical
College, Lander University in Greenwood, SC, and the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery at Coastal
Carolina University, 2018. Her works have been published in 2014, 2015, and 2016 issues of Greenville
Technical College’s Blue Granite Review with recognition in the 2016 edition as the featured artist,
showcasing her work as the cover art.
